Almost ready for that full on for sale post now...

Wait is this yours? and are you willing to trade?
![]() 08/04/2014 at 23:24 |

UGHHH I can't wait til that for sale post. So tempting. If it had a fox red or brown interior I'd buy it right now.
![]() 08/04/2014 at 23:25 |

The contrast color interiors are the best. I've always been a fan of white on brown, my best friend's E46 M3 is almost the same color combo as your E90.

Yes it is, and no, sorry.
![]() 08/04/2014 at 23:28 |

Why on earth are you selling it?
![]() 08/04/2014 at 23:28 |

Dang. Oh well I tried lol. I was gonna offer up my 1973 Gran Torino. But curious how much you gonna be asking?

Stroker kit? I love me some interlagos.

Based off some research I'm looking at $68k right now, not bad for a $120k car with 23k miles, 527hp, and a year of full factory/Dinan warranty left.

Yessir, 4.6l 527hp, 407tq

before I bought my E90 I was looking for an Alpine white or carbon black on cinnamon E46 M3. Found one 2 miles up the road that ended up being an SMG listed as a manual.. They even said 6MT in the ad description.
![]() 08/04/2014 at 23:32 |
|
That's the worst. I was looking for a Laguna Seca Blue E46 for a friend and found one with only 12k, come to find out it had a rebuilt title and SMG, it too was listed as a 6MT
![]() 08/04/2014 at 23:34 |

Have you driven a supercharged one, and if you did, how does it compare? Beautiful car by the way, I'd love to stay n/a but the cost for that level of power currently doesn't justify it for me. I am jealous though.
![]() 08/04/2014 at 23:36 |
|
Oh nice. 6-speed or SMG? Or what do those things have?
![]() 08/04/2014 at 23:36 |

Luckily it's a lot better with E9x's. It's still tough finding a manual ZCP Lemans blue E90 without a sunroof but at least when I do find one it's legit.
I feel like Laguna seca blue E46 M3's are always involved in shady deals. Probably because the demand for them is so great.

6 Speed Manual. Three Pedals. They say the DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) is superior, but they always do. 6 speed is the way to go, we all know that. Plus, it's so much fun to give a little rev in neutral as I roll around, with the stroker motor and the Dinan free flow exhaust it barks like a 70's-era Cosworth V8-powered F1 car.

I drove one S/C'd car. The whine of the blower is really cool, but it felt strained. This is way, way better. Being all motor the response this has in every gear is crazy.

Sadly i've never owened a standard trans car. Though I may be getting a GT500 if I can sell my Torino and V6 Musatng.
![]() 08/04/2014 at 23:47 |

Very long story, but it's not my car, I'm selling it as a favor to a friend who ended up with it and isn't a car guy. I've been driving it around a bit and having owned an E30 M3, E46 M3, Alpina C3 2.7, E21 323i, 1971 2002tii, and one just simply unstoppable E30 325ix I can say this thing is by far the most brutish yet docile Bimmer I've been behind the wheel of. They know I'm a BMW fan so they thought I'd have a better chance of getting what it's worth for them.

Have to do it, rowing your own gears is the only way to really feel like you're part of the car. I learned to drive in a manual trans Jeep CJ7, and took my driving test in my dad's 67 GT500 (way, way back in 1994 when they weren't crazy money), and it's what I've preferred all my life. I've owned a Mercedes or three without a manual, and my FZJ80 Landcruiser is an auto, but this is just so much more fun.
![]() 08/04/2014 at 23:51 |
|
Ya but my 1973 Gran Torino has become a part of me because having a classic no matter the trans is something you put your soul into when something goes wrong(2 Steering boxes and 4 PS pumps and new master cylinder and Radiator) working on them can also give you that connection
![]() 08/04/2014 at 23:55 |

I fully agree. I miss my 63 Continental for that very reason, same with the 68 RS/SS 396 Camaro I had for all of six months until it got rear ended. I turn my own wrenches for every thing that I can. And low cost parts is the best, I had a couple VW Bugs that really reinforced that point.
![]() 08/04/2014 at 23:57 |

Ouch....no way you could of saved it?
![]() 08/05/2014 at 00:02 |

Ahh gotcha. I hear what you mean though, the Dinan M3s are just insane.
![]() 08/05/2014 at 00:03 |

Nope, whole rear unibody and frame rails were corkscrewed. My cousin and I walked away. Rear ended at a stop light by a MK3 Jetta 2.0 doing 65, he didn't even tap the breaks, was talking to his friend in the car next to him. He lived but broke a shitload of bones.
The engine, trans, interior, hideaway lights, Rallye wheels, and Hotchkiss suspension was mostly salvageable. I actually made money on it after the insurance payout, but I would have rather had that car for another year or 10.

Oh shit glad your ok.

I've seen "Manual" in the AutoTrader field and "6 Speed Auto Manual" in the description. That dealer was trying really hard to justify listing a paddle shift transmission as manual.
It would all be fixed if this standard was followed by all car sale websites:
AUTOMATIC (includes slushbox, single clutch paddle shift, dual clutch paddle shift, and CVT)
MANUÉL (only includes three pedal cars with a stick shift used to change gears)
![]() 08/05/2014 at 03:00 |

That would make shopping for a car so much more simple.
+1000
We need to get that to congress.
![]() 08/05/2014 at 03:03 |

At first I thought there should be 3 categories like cars.com has now.
But forget that, it just increases the chances of a dealer messing it up on accident or on purpose.
And it only helps for very rare cases when a specific model came in both slushbox or automated manual. Only one I can think of off the top of my head is the Maserati Gran Turismo. Most cars these days are either slushbox only, slushbox or stick, DCT or stick, or DCT only. No need to distinguish between slushbox and DCT as that's very unlikely in the same model going forward...

A very funny incident in the automatic vs automated manual argument was when a local jeep/Chrysler dealer got an auto 335i. The PO swapped the auto shifter with a 6MT shift knob and consequentially the car was listed as a manual. I called and told them it was an auto, and that it only had 2 pedals. The guy on the phone just didn't understand what I was saying.
"no, it's not an auto. Look at the shift knob. It's an automated manual. Yes, I know it's not a traditional manual, but it's not an auto sir!"
![]() 08/05/2014 at 03:14 |

LOL
I guess we have to dumb it down further then!
AUTOMATIC (car has TWO pedals)
MANUAL (car has THREE pedals)

I wish I could "end up" with it! Straight up trade for my E90? I'd give up the fox red for that stroker! Willing to throw in free legal services as well =D Wait, does your friend need a kidney by any chance?
![]() 08/05/2014 at 09:29 |

Which one, of all you've owned or driven, is your all-time favorite?
![]() 08/05/2014 at 11:54 |
|
Probably the E21 323i, grey market car that nobody had, tons of torque, an unloved body style that just looked so cool to me.
The memories I have attached to it probably cloud my decision but I really loved it. One of my good friends still owns it, along with his 911SC.
![]() 08/05/2014 at 12:02 |

Nice that you still get to see it from time to time. I have similarly fond memories of my '05 Mazda 3s hatch that I sold to a friend (first new car - drove for 7 years and 90k miles). I need to drive it sometime just to determine just how much emotion clouds my memory of it.
My E90 M3 is my first BMW, but I look forward to owning a classic or two down the line. They're much more interesting to me than anything in BMW's current catalog.

E21's are going to be a smart buy right now, the 2002 market has gone a bit nuts. $40k for a tii is insane.

I think I'd be pretty happy with a well-kept, run of the mill E30 (but I know lots of them have been mauled for LeMons by this point).
![]() 08/05/2014 at 12:20 |

Just be sure to get the plastic bumpered 89-91 cars, and the "is" ones, the little tweaks the "s" adds are worth it!
![]() 08/05/2014 at 12:21 |

Thanks for the tip - wouldn't mind a nice E28, either.

It was so annoying haha, I had him connect me to one of the techs and had to make him explain it to him. I think they ended up swapping the shifter to avoid anymore confusion.
How is someone that clueless allowed to sell cars for a living?
![]() 08/05/2014 at 12:51 |

You: "yo dawg, I just want to know if this car is a true manual or not"
Them: "define this 'manual' concept you keep talking about"
![]() 08/05/2014 at 12:56 |
|
LOL.
They should have the techs go over the ads to verify everything. It's crazy how many mistakes they can make. I looked at an AWD M3 once..
![]() 08/05/2014 at 13:03 |

AWD turbo diesel M3 with a CVT
Sounds about right...

Supercharged V6 Quattro 335i targa!
No wonder it sat on the lot so long....
![]() 08/05/2014 at 13:17 |

funny thing is BMW would build it
![]() 08/05/2014 at 13:32 |

they'd build it, sell 7 of them a year, and then discontinue it as soon as they make them great.

Haha exactly
